It's usually cyclic, but still requires a great deal of work by the owner. I'm busy writing and simply got tired of luring and trying to keep activity going.

I gave it to Angus, who isn't a writer. He improved the design a lot, but we still haven't attracted much activity. Activity generates activity. If there were a half-dozen active members, coming and posting comments and stories every day, others would see it and stay.

All us amateur writers want our works read and commented on. Some, like me and Oscar Rat, prefer then torn apart with errors noted to applause, though some want vindication of talent and applause. It we don't get it here, we'll go somewhere else.

I've seen a lot of sites like this one, popular for a while, then fading away. Then someone sees it and tells their online friends, who flock there for a while, then go somewhere else, like butterflies. But while they're there, others see the activity and also stay.

Do you remember "Little Wolf's"? It was there for years, even after the owner lost interest, others kept it going. Then, there came to point where nobody wanted to run it, and it faded away.

The same happened here. FWBW started from a few friends. It became popular, then started fading. The original owners went on to start a "flash" site. Since then, it's bounced between three or four owner, myself being the last before Angus, who has it now.

If he gets tired of it, I only hope he gives it back to me.

This is the site that helped me so much when I was new to the craft. Others were condescending or not very helpful. It nurtured my ability and kept me going at a time when I was within a hair of quiting. Unlike a lot of amateurs, I haven't had that dream of writing since childhood, only getting it in my old age. At that time, I was only thinking of giving it a try to see if I had any talent at all. It was a fragile start.

So, I'd hate to see it fade away.
